Welcome to half-dozen-1
Hullo and welcome to 6-1. I am delighted to welcome my new course to school and I expect forward to many fun and heady lessons this yr. Subsequently two disrupted years, fingers crossed for a twelvemonth filled with glorious normality!
The children will take PE on both Monday and Thursday each week so PE kits and trainers are needed on those days. We still have fun fit Fri so a PE kit is required so also.
This term we will be studying the following:
English - Diary Entries, Journalistic Writing and Alphabetic character Writing.
Maths - Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Ratio and Proportion and Measures.
Geography - Are we dissentious our earth?
Science - Evolution and Inheritance.
RE - Sources.
PE - Yoga and Athletics.
Art - Illusions.

Homework
Monday: Every Mon, we send home English homework. Ordinarily, this will take the form of a reading comprehension. This homework is due back in school on Wed mornings. We will too be sending dwelling spellings every calendar week, the test volition ever exist the following Monday.
Wednesday:
Maths: Maths homework will exist set every week linking to what children take been learning in class. This may be paper-based homework but could likewise have the form of beingness gear up on My Maths. Log ins will exist in the children's reading records.
Friday:
Grammar homework / Spellings / Reading
Reading:
Children are expected to read every night where possible, with a minimum expectation of reading at least four nights per week. Children are to read and comment in their reading diaries what they have read etc and so quiz in class when they cease their books. If children want to read a book aslope their schoolhouse reading book they can do then. Reading diaries will be checked every calendar week for gilded stars. There should exist a minimum of iv entries in the kid'due south reading record, these records are checked in schoolhouse every Tuesday. Year 6 children will access an online reading platform chosen Reading Plus. The children are to log on to reading plus as this will help children with their reading and comprehension skills. Passwords are in children's reading diaries.

Nosotros are Writers
We were lucky to be joined in school past Honorary Colonel Doctor Andy Grant. Andy told us all about his life growing upwardly in Bootle before he joined The Royal Marines. He also told us about the moment his life inverse forever and how he refused to let one major incident define him. Instead of aging nether the weight of his life-changing injuries, he became an inspiration. We decided that Andy would be the perfect person for the states to write biographies about.

We have been linking our History topic of World War Two to our writing. Have a read at some of our information texts.
We are Historians
Have a read at a choice of our diary entries. The children took function in a zoom call interview with Joan who was an evacuee in 1939. During a writing lesson, the children put themselves in Joan'southward position and used their prior learning from History lessons and information from Goodnight Mr Tom to compile some fabulous diary entries.

Nosotros are physically agile
In spring term, we are studying yoga as function of our PE curriculum. Nosotros have enjoyed learning yoga poses and combining stretching and breathing activities. We have found this very relaxing and nifty for the trunk and the mind.
